Waiting For the Last Minute? Not a Wise Choice

There is a saying, five minutes before the party; it is not a time to learn to dance, waiting for the last minute to take an action does not work in an oil spill scenario. A strong training well before in advance is what is required to be effective at the time of the spill. The oil companies and the respective governments need to consider the oil spill training and pre - planning as one of the most important and an unavoidable mandatory precautionary measure. Oil spilling is not an event that deserves a late reaction and to expect results with the last minute procedures will not be wise either. It must not be taken lightly, as a last minute reaction will neither recover the lost asset nor will it help save the water-bodies and the water life. Right from chemical storage to the spill kits, everything requires its duly importance and precautions in order to prevent any disastrous situation.

Although everybody is well aware of the gravity and the ill potential of the spills, most of the handling bodies are not too keen about the oil spill response training. It is highly unfortunate that this issue is still a serious and a neglected problem worldwide. All the handling bodies need to understand that the success rate expected after a spill can be high only if the response to the situation is rightly timed. And a right response at the right time depends upon people with a right frame of mind alert and responsive in situation like these, well equipped with the right training. Fighting such testing times can become possible and realistic only with the right kind of preparation and a strongly populated team. One of the main reasons why oil companies refrain from the early and proper and detailed training is the expense that goes into such training. But what the oil company needs to understand is that the steps taken well advance in time can only lead to the right action at the right time at the time of a disastrous situation like an oil spill.

Options are many; if the companies are not in favor of in-house trainings even then the options do not die out. There are many oil spill courses running all over the prestigious universities worldwide, graduates passing out with degrees in such courses can be employed to combat the dire situations. Hiring from the right sources at the right time can also help the companies save their assets along with saving the water-life that direly gets affected due to the oil spills every now and then. In fact the companies should adopt measures that are able to avoid any situation that leads to an oil spill rather than waiting for it to happen and then adopt procedures.  Realistic training, hiring right professional to fight such a scenario and combat the after effects is not enough, awareness among the employees is also extremely important to help combat unfateful oil spills.
